Apart from the Transformer Book Chi T300 that was launched yesterday, ASUS also announced what it claims to be the world’s slimmest Full HD ultraportable laptop.

The ASUS ZenBook UX305 is the latest Intel Core M powered laptop that is set to make a splash in the local market. It first appeared last September and immediately went on to win the 2014 Good Design Award from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, and bagged another one at the 2015 iF Design Award. Those awards should be enough to convince the naysayers that the UX305 is indeed a looker.

The combination of the Core M processor, the fast SATA SSD storage rated at 6 Gbit/s), and a fanless design help make the UX305 power-efficient, but without sacrificing performance. The setup is also partially responsible for giving the laptop up to 10 hours of web-browsing battery life, or keep it going for up to 8 hours of either music or video playback; the 45 Wh polymer battery helps too. Speaking of music, the UX305 features ASUS SonicMaster audio and incorporates sound technology from ICEpower (a collaborator of Bang & Olufsen) to deliver deep bass and clear vocals.

The chassis of the laptop comes from solid aluminium block and has a wedge-shape design with, what ASUS calls, diamond-cut edges to further enhance the look. These have led to the laptop’s svelte 12.3 mm ‘thickness’ as well as its slight 1.2 kg ‘weight’. Even with its compact and fanless design, UX305 keeps itself from burning out with the ASUS IceCool technology. The technology is so effective that even the palm-rest area below the keyboard maintains a lower-than-body temperature, while the laptop is in operation. The laptop has a full-size keyboard with chiclet keys, and a large touchpad that supports Smart Gestures; which will come in handy with the expanded controls of Windows 8.1.

The ZenBook has a 13.3” IPS display with a 1920×1080 resolution, a wide viewing angle (that can go up to 178 degrees), and an anti-glare coating, which enables the display to deliver vivid, vibrant, and crisp visuals. Some of the other specifications of the laptop include 4 GB of RAM (which can be upgraded to 8 GB), integrated Intel HD Graphics 5300, a HD 720 CMOS camera, Bluetooth 2.1, and three USB 3.0 ports (with one ASUS USB Charger+ port that can charge mobile devices even when laptop is asleep or switched off). ASUS has also bundled a USB-to-ETHERNET adapter, and a mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter to go with the laptop.

The ZenBook UX305FA has an RRP of RM 2,399 for the Intel Core M 5Y10 variant (with 128 GB SSD, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n), while the Intel Core M 5Y71 variant (with 256 GB SSD, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac) has an RRP of RM 2,999. These prices are fixed and will not be affected when GST is implemented. The laptops come in Obsidian Stone with spun-metal finish, or in the white Ceramic Alloy colour options, and they’re both available now at authorised retailers.

ASUS Malaysia also spoke of QHD (3200 x 1800) variants of the UX305 and a ZenBook UX501 but the prices for these will be revealed when they arrive during their scheduled window later this May.
