Microsoft has announced the all new Surface Pro 3 and boldly claims that the device is powerful enough to replace your laptop. The Surface Pro 3 is both a tablet and a laptop that comes in multiple configurations for processor, RAM, and storage. It has a sleek design and with a simple snap or click, transforms from a tablet to a full-functioning laptop, and back again.
The Surface Pro 3 has a 12” ClearType full HD display which has been colour-calibrated to also attract photographers and designers who are on the go. In fact, the folks at Microsoft even roped in Adobe’s Vice President of Experience Design, Michael Gough, to introduce new features of an upcoming release of Photoshop CC. Other hardware highlights include a continuously adjustable kickstand and a much improved internals. The device weighs around 0.8 kg and is 30 percent thinner than the 11” MacBook Air.

- Option of using any of the 4th-generation Intel Core processors: i3, i5, or i7.
- The Core i5-4300U CPU version runs at 1.6 GHz, and up to 2.90 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Boost. Intel HD Graphics 4400 GPU.
- Has Windows 8.1 Pro.
- 12”, 2160 x 1440 ClearType Full HD display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Supports multi-touch.
- 4 or 8 GB RAM. Option of 64, 128, 256, or 512 GB storage and accepts microSD card.
- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with Bluetooth 4.0.
- 5 MP for both front and rear cameras, supporting 1080p HD video capture.
- Has built-in front and rear microphones as well as stereo speakers with Dolby Audio enhancements.
- Ports include USB 3.0, headset jack and Mini DisplayPort.
- Only information we have about the battery is that it can last up to 9 hours with web browsing.
- Dimensions are 201.42 x 292.1 x 9.14 mm and weighs around 798.32 g.
- Comes in only Silver but can be accessorised with the Type Covers.

There’s also the newly designed Surface Pen, that looks and feels like a real fountain pen, which is encased in aluminium and has 256 levels of pressure sensitivity. There’s also a click button on the pen that can execute other commands such as launching a fresh page in OneNote. Microsoft has also improved on the trackpad with the new Type Cover.
The Surface Pro 3 also comes with additional accessories, such as the Docking Station (which is making a comeback here) and Surface Ethernet Adapter, to transform the tablet into the laptop replacement device that it’s being presented as.

The Surface Pro 3 is available now for pre-order in the US and is available in multiple configurations. Beginning June 20th, customers in Canada and US will be able to get the devices online and at selected retail stores. Additional accessories will be available in the next few months and other configurations in August.

Looks like we’ll just have to hold out until August to find out what the price will be like here in Malaysia, which would be just in time for the ‘Merdeka’ celebrations.
