Clearly outrunning all its other competitors here, the Acer Aspire R 11 became the first device in Malaysia to ship with Windows 10 pre-installed. The R 11 is a multi-form personal computer with a 360-degree hinge that allows it to convert into any of its 4 usage modes (Laptop, Tablet, Display, and Tent).
The Aspire R 11 is a compact device with a 11.6” HD (1366 x 768) touchscreen display that comes with zero air-gap technology; which is commonly associated with smartphones to reduce the thickness of the display and to improve upon the reproduction of images or videos on the display. The LED-backlit TFT screen also comes with Gorilla Glass protection, anti-fingerprint coating and is mercury free. If that was not enough, Acer has also incorporated its BluelightShield feature on the device. The technology helps to reduce eye-strain for users by reducing the blue light emission in 3 level/modes: ‘Low Reduction’ reduces blue light by 18% and is as effective as a pair of generic anti-blue-light glasses, High Reduction takes it up to 36%, and finally the Long Hour Mode that was professionally tuned by optical engineers to reduce strain for usage over extended periods.
Looking at the hardware aspects, the R 11 comes with a quad-core Intel Pentium N3700 processor with Intel HD graphics, a 4 GB DDR3L RAM (which can be upgraded up to 8 GB), and a 500 GB HDD for storage. For ports, connections and peripherals, the device comes with HD Webcam, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0 and 2.0, as well as built-in stereo speakers. Acer also touts that the 4-cell 48 Wh, 3220 mAh, Li-ion battery pack is capable of powering the R 11 on for up to 8 hours with a single charge.
Going back to the speakers, they feature the Acer TrueHarmony technology that uses paper diaphragms in their construction. This is said to enhance their strength and their flexibility, which in turn provides great clarity in the audio reproduction. Still on audio, the R 11 is able to route the audio channels based on the orientation of the device. So, no matter which way the device is turned and no matter in which mode, users can be sure to get the correct reproduction of the channels (left or right audio channels) as intended from the source material.
On the software side of things, the laptop comes with the 64-bit version of Windows 10 Home and it is Skype for Business certified. The laptop also features Acer Touch Tools for screen capturing and editing using fingers, as well as the Precision TouchPad (PTP) feature that enhances the accuracy of the touchpad. Acer has designed PTP to be smart enough to differentiate between intentional and accidental contacts with the touchpad.
The Acer Aspire R 11 is available now for RM 1,499 at all major Authorized Acer Resellers nationwide. Buyers will be able to participate in Acer Sales & Services Sdn Bhd’s ongoing ‘Why Not Win a Mazda3’ as well as the ‘Acer Answer & Win’ contests.
